Dear Parents and Educators,

For the past 5 years I have been trying to find a way to help children work on their multiplication skills and have fun at the same time. During that time I tried everything from flash cards to mad minute math sheets. Although these were successful in their own right, students weren't asking me, "Hey Mr. Waid, can we stay in at recess and use the flash cards?". I then realized that if I could come up with a game that they really enjoyed and improved their multiplication skills at the same time, I might actually have students ask to stay in and play the game at recess. If I could get that to happen that would be a success.

As a kid I grew up playing all kinds of games with my family and friends, so I tried to create a game that incorporated using multiplication skills that was fun and exciting to play. After 4 years of revising a game that used characters that had a power from 1-12 and a 12-sided dice, the game I came up with is a card game called TokenZ (pronounced "tokens").

TokenZ is a card game that takes only a minute to learn and can be taken out and put away quickly. During a typical TokenZ game, using just the starter deck, children will do anywhere from 24 - 36 multiplication problems.

When I was creating TokenZ, I wanted to create a game that was fun, exciting and non-violent so it would be conducive to the school environment. In the game characters battle each other and use their special skills to attack or defend against an opponent and the winner captures the "TokenZ Treasure". The person who has the most TokenZ treasure at the end of the game wins.

Now that the game has been professionally designed and manufactured I actually have students ask "Mr. Waid can we stay in and play TokenZ?" Ah...SUCCESS!
