TokenZ and the building blocks of math

Number Recognition & Number Sense

For younger children who are just learning their numbers you can play
TokenZ using the card number at the top right corner of the card.
Simply give half of the deck to each person then each person flips up a
card. Each player looks at the number in the top right corner and the
higher number wins. The winning player takes both cards. After all the
cards are gone each player counts the number of cards they have. The
player with the most cards wins.

Addition

For children who are working on addition you simply add the attack
number or defense number to the die roll and calculate a total. The
highest total wins the battle and collects both cards. At the end of the
game players count the number of cards and the player with the most cards
wins.

Subtraction

For children who are working on subtraction the strategy will change.
You will want to attack with a high number or a low number. When you
roll you subtract the lower number from the higher number to come up
with a total.
Ex: You attack with a 10 and you roll a 3 (10-3 = 7) = 7. Your
opponent defends with 4 and rolls a 12 (12-4 = 8) = 8. Opponent wins.
Basically you always subtract the lower number from the higher number (die
roll or card) to come up with a total. The player that wins the battle
collects the cards. At the end of the game the players count the
number of cards they have and the player with the most cards wins.

Multiplication

See standard rules.

Advanced Multiplication

1. Play with a 20 sided dice.
2. Play with a 12 and a 20 sided dice. Use the 12 sided dice like the
standard game, then add the value from the 2o sided dice. Ex: Attack
with an 8 and roll a 10 (then roll the 20 sided die) and roll 16 ( 8 x
10 = 80...80 + 16 = 96).
